Interaxial is professional remote control, color, and live monitoring for Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive cameras, built for Apple Immersive Video and 180° stereo 3D productions. By Root & Arc Labs.
This guide gets you from install to your first recording. For the full feature walkthrough, see the User Guide. For help with specific problems, see the FAQ & Troubleshooting.
What you need
- An iPhone, iPad, or Mac running Interaxial. (Interaxial also runs natively on Apple Vision Pro, and ships with Apple Watch and Apple TV companions — see the User Guide.)
- A Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera powered on and reachable over your local network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet). Your device and the camera must be on the same network.
- The camera's IP address (you'll find it in the camera's own network settings).
No camera handy? Interaxial includes a built-in demo camera so you can explore every screen offline. Jump to Try the demo camera.
Connect to a camera
- Launch Interaxial. The connection bar sits across the top of the screen.
- Tap the IP address field and type your camera's address — for example
192.168.1.100. - Tap Connect (the connect icon on iPhone, the Connect button on iPad/Mac).
When the connection succeeds, the status chip turns green, the top bar fills in with the camera's name, format, timecode and power, and all of the control panels become available.
Tips:
- Interaxial remembers the addresses you've used. Tap the overflow menu (
⋯) in the connection bar to pick from recent cameras, reconnect, or add another camera. - You can connect to more than one camera and switch between them — see Multi-camera & gang recording in the User Guide.
- If a "Local Network" permission prompt appears the first time you connect, tap Allow. Interaxial needs it to reach cameras on your LAN. If you declined it, see the FAQ.
Try the demo camera (offline)
The demo camera is a fully simulated URSA Cine Immersive — realistic ISO/WB/shutter/ND, a ticking timecode, a live horizon and audio meters, and interactive controls. It needs no network and no hardware, so it's perfect for learning the app or demonstrating it.
One-tap way: in the connection bar, open the overflow menu (⋯) and choose "Demo Camera (offline test)."
Manual way: type 127.0.0.1:3001 into the IP field and tap Connect. Connecting to any address on port 3001 activates the demo camera.
Everything in the demo responds live: set ISO, white balance, shutter or ND and the values update; toggle record and the timecode behaves as it would on a real camera. Writes are simulated locally, so nothing leaves your device.
The Home panel and Quick Controls
After you connect, you land on the Home panel. The row of tiles below the top bar is the panel navigation — tap a tile to jump to ND, FPS, Shutter, ISO, WB, Color, Monitoring, NDI Live, Playback, System, Audio, or Report. Each tile shows the camera's current value for that setting at a glance.
Home itself gives you the four Quick Controls you reach for most:
- ND — neutral-density filter
- ISO
- Shutter — shutter angle
- WB — white balance
Each is a compact up/down stepper: tap the chevron above a control to step it up, the chevron below to step it down. The current value is shown large in the middle.
Below the Quick Controls, Home also shows:
- an artificial Horizon indicator for quickly leveling the shot (on cameras with a motion sensor), and
- a Viewfinder tile that opens the live Viewfinder for monitoring, scopes, framing and still capture.
Your first recording
- Connect to your camera (or the demo camera).
- Set your look with the Quick Controls on Home — ND, ISO, Shutter, WB — or open the dedicated panels for finer control.
- Tap the Record button. The timecode starts running and the record indicator turns red.
- Tap Record again to stop.
That's a single take. For leveling, framing, live monitoring and grabbing a reference still, open the Viewfinder from the Home tile — see The Viewfinder in the User Guide. To roll several cameras together with one tap, see gang recording.
