Frequently asked questions
What is Interaxial?
Professional remote control, color, and live monitoring for Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive cameras, built for Apple Immersive Video and 180° stereo 3D productions. By Root & Arc Labs. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac (both "Designed for iPad"/Mac Catalyst and a native macOS app), and Apple Vision Pro, with Apple Watch and Apple TV companions.
Which cameras does it work with?
Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive cameras, controlled over their HTTP control API on your local network.
Can I try it without a camera?
Yes. Interaxial has a built-in demo camera. Connect to any address on port 3001 (for example 127.0.0.1:3001), or choose "Demo Camera (offline test)" from the connection bar's overflow menu (⋯). It simulates a full URSA Cine Immersive — ISO/WB/shutter/ND, ticking timecode, live horizon and audio meters — and the controls respond live, all offline.
Can I control more than one camera?
Yes. Add multiple cameras and use gang control to push a setting (White Balance, ISO, Shutter, or ND) to several at once, gang recording to roll them together, and camera group presets to apply saved looks with one tap. See Multi-camera & gang recording.
Does changing a LUT or scope affect my recording?
No. The Viewfinder LUT, scopes and false color affect monitoring only. The camera's own Display LUT monitor setting also applies to the monitor output only, never to recorded footage.
What format are camera reports exported in?
CSV with 200+ configurable fields, written in UTF-16 LE (with a BOM) for DaVinci Resolve and other tools. Reports can export to a cloud folder and/or a local share. See Camera reports.
How do I review a shot in the headset?
Capture a still in the Viewfinder and tap Immersive to build a stereo spatial photo, then open it in the Immersive Viewer on Apple Vision Pro. See Immersive hand-off.
Troubleshooting
Local Network permission
The first time Interaxial connects to a camera on your network, iOS/iPadOS/visionOS asks for Local Network access. Tap Allow — the app needs it to reach cameras (and SRT/NDI sources) on your LAN.
If you tapped "Don't Allow," connections will silently fail or time out with no obvious error. Re-enable it in Settings → (your device) → Apps → Interaxial → Local Network, then try again. If the toggle isn't there at all, delete and reinstall the app so the system re-prompts.
Connection problems
If a camera won't connect:
- Check the address. Confirm the IP in the camera's own network settings and that you typed it exactly (for example
192.168.1.100). - Same network. Your device and the camera must be on the same network/subnet. Corporate/guest Wi-Fi that isolates clients ("client isolation" or "AP isolation") will block the camera — use a dedicated production network.
- Local Network permission — see above; a denied permission looks exactly like a network failure.
- Power and reachability. Make sure the camera is powered on and its network interface (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) is up.
- Try the demo camera (
127.0.0.1:3001) to confirm the app itself is working — if the demo connects but your camera doesn't, the issue is on the network/camera side, not the app. - Reconnect from history. Use the
⋯menu to reconnect to a recent camera.
Interaxial also detects a camera power-cycle and restores your settings after the camera comes back, so a brief power loss won't wipe your configuration.
NDI / SRT setup
Live monitoring in the Viewfinder (and on the visionOS Immersive Viewer) can use SRT or NDI:
- NDI — open the live-source panel and let Interaxial discover NDI sources on your network, then connect. NDI and the camera/source must be on the same network.
- SRT — connect as an SRT caller by entering the stream's host and port. Make sure a sender is running and reachable, and that any firewall allows the SRT (UDP) port.
- NDI on Mac — native-macOS NDI monitoring requires Apple's free NDI runtime (included with NDI Tools). Install it and relaunch Interaxial; without it, NDI features are disabled and the app will say so.
- If a live stream never shows frames, re-check Local Network permission, the host/port, and that your device and the sender are on the same LAN.
Flat (2D) devices show one eye of the stereo stream; the full stereo 180° dome is presented by the Immersive Viewer on Apple Vision Pro.
Numeric fields
Interaxial uses a dedicated numeric keypad for value fields. Type the number and confirm with Enter.
System requirements
Interaxial 1.0 runs on:
- iPhone / iPad — iOS / iPadOS 15 or later.
- Mac — as a "Designed for iPad" (Mac Catalyst) app, and as a dedicated native macOS app (macOS 14 or later). NDI monitoring on Mac requires the free NDI runtime.
- Apple Vision Pro — the native Immersive Viewer (visionOS 26 or later).
- Apple Watch companion — watchOS 26 or later (pairs with the iPhone app).
- Apple TV companion — tvOS 17 or later.
You'll also need a Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera on the same local network (or the built-in demo camera for offline use).
Getting support
Interaxial is made by Root & Arc Labs. For help, feature requests, or bug reports, email [email protected], or use the contact on the app's App Store page. When reporting an issue, it helps to include your device and OS version, the Interaxial version, your camera model/firmware, and whether the demo camera (127.0.0.1:3001) connects for you.
